During past visits to NYC, I very quickly learned that you don’t really need to ask for permission to take someone’s photo. Technically, yes…but that’s not the name of the game when it comes to street style photography and capturing the shot in NYC (Bill Cunningham definitely set the tone for this). During my August trip to visit work (aka The Shelf), I was very lucky to spend three days of shooting with my pal, Ryan of Twelve Rolls. He took me around to his favourite shooting spots and where all the cool kids hang out. Instead of just snapping without asking though, I did a mix and ended up talking to dozens of extremely friendly strangers. Given that street style photography is overdone in NYC, I couldn’t believe how nice people were about it…and how curious they were about my blog.
It was hot as hell during the trip but totally worth roaming the streets and getting to know stylish strangers! I should be heading back there in the next few months – fingers crossed! I need to see some inspiring street style guys!
